The 10 most requested second dance tracks!

The first dance has been done and you're going to need an anthem to get the party going! The song you choose sets the mood for the rest of the night...

A bride lifted into the air at her wedding party

The second dance never used to be a thing but for those of you who don’t know, this is the song that comes straight after the first dance.

Whatever song you choose, it needs to be instantly recognisable and tells all your friends and family that the formalities are out of the way and now it’s time to let your hair down and make some shapes on the dance floor!

Here’s my list of the top 10 most requested second dance tracks.  This list is made up of all the songs chosen so far by couples at their weddings in 2022!

  • September by Earth Wind & Fire – It’s a disco classic without a doubt and is a great, happy, upbeat song to set any dance floor on fire!
  • Marry You by Bruno Mars – Such an obvious choice but Bruno is a musical magician and features quite a few times in this list!
  • Shut Up & Dance by Walk The Moon – It features all the ingredients needed to get people dancing.  Upbeat, pop, great lyrics and is a dance floor smash without a doubt!
  • Celebration by Kool & The Gang – It’s an 80s party staple yet it’s still no.4 on my top 10 most requested second dance tracks!  An oldie but goodie!
  • About Damn Time by Lizzo – Every so often a track comes out and very quickly becomes a party anthem and this is one of those tracks.  It went viral on TikTok and also filled my dance floors!
  • Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO – This song is eleven years old folks…just let that sink in for a moment…
  • I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas – The Black Eyed Peas have brought out some amazing records over the past 20 years and this is one of their best!
  • Levels by Avicii – I’ve done a lot of “younger crowd” weddings this year and this is one of those tracks that always features on a playlist…it’s a proper festival banger!
  • Afraid To Feel by LF SYSTEM – A great way to set the party alight…starts off slow and then BAM…we’re off….!
  • Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen – This record has such an iconic intro that you just can’t help to sing at the top of your voice, a proper party classic!

I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a great list of tracks to start any party off!

I was quite surprised to NOT see Abba’s Dancing Queen in there, to be honest.  That is such an obvious party anthem that I’m sure gets played at pretty much any party on a Saturday night across the UK although if I’m honest, I tend to lean more towards the version in the second Mamma Mia! film.

Second dances have only really become popular in the last 10 years or so.  They were always played but never really had a name.  As well as the upbeat party classics like you will find in the list above, a lot of couples also go for the second-choice first dance track, the one that didn’t quite make the cut but is an excellent choice in its own right.  It doesn’t need to be fast, it can be romantic, jazzy, in fact, anything you like.  Remember, it’s your wedding, these are all choices you can make.

If you have Spotify then check out my list where you’ll find all of the above as well as a load more in this (almost) 90-minute playlist!
